This painting is of a sunrise from the first morning I was here in Australia. It reminds me of what the beginning was like and how new everything was. I created this by just free hand painting and went with the flow. Overall I am very happy with this turnout.
This piece is 8 watercolour and blind contour drawings put together to show my time in Australia. I tried to follow a colour scheme of blue, green, and yellow to bring the piece together. I used watercolour for the background and then loosely blind contour drew overtop. I feel like the colours and looseness of the piece shows the mood I was trying to get across and what my time felt like in Australia. I had to redo the bottom paper because I tried to go out of my colour scheme, but I didn't like how it looked and redid it. I really like how this turned out.
This piece is a visual journal of addiction. I chose addiction because it is very relevant and something I find interesting. The colours and shapes show the craziness of what your brain does on alcohol and drugs. I have always loved doing visual journals and it was fun incorporating this theme into one. I made this by first putting down the base layer of different colours of paint and each day I added a new layer. I learned that I need a focal point of my art to make it feel finished to me, thats why I added the contour drawing of the lady reaching out because that is my point of focus. Overall I am very happy with how it turned out.
My art piece is an embroidery picture of me and is from when I was in Mexico in the winter. I have used many colours of string to make this piece vibrant and show the mood that I want people to feel while looking at it. Peace and happiness. I would call this piece "buena vida" which translates from Spanish meaning "the good life". I was inspired by many people on Pinterest who had done embroidery and I wanted to try. This is something that I haven't done before and it was really fun trying a new technique and using a new material. I like using string because it gives the feeling of being light and flowy. If I were to redo this I would have used my time more efficiently so I could have finished without being rushed. I would also have used different brands of string so that the textures and thickness of the string was different. Overall I am very happy with how it turned out.
1) I'm not very good at managing my time and thinking of an idea, but I have one now and am ready to start. The rest will be smooth sailing and very quick. I am using a wood block to paint portrait of myself but using string and yarn. I am still figuring out what colours and sizes to use for different parts and also what colour to paint the background if any.
2) Rae Miranda does lots of embroidery and string art and this inspired me to use string. 3) I was looking through pinterest and found embroidery and kept clicking on things I liked until this page popped up. 4) This artist's work influenced my idea because I was going to use another material, like jellybeans, or tiles and then I came across this and settled on string. 5) I already have a set idea in my head and I'm not planning on changing anything about it. For my personal narrative project I decided to try something I have never done before. It is based on my trip to Maui last spring break and how important family is to me. I made the painting part of it a little more abstract to show that it's not the destination that was important but the journey. The total of 7 hours in the car with my family and the experiences on the way are what I remember. I started with getting all my family members to write about their own personal experience from this day and I glued these on as the background that I would be painting on. This shows that having a family is the foundation of everything and without that there is nothing to build on and support the oncoming layers.
2. so far I have completed my outline and the blog reflection 2. I have also gathered up all the notes and photocopied them so I am ready to start.
3. I know exactly what I am going to do now, so from here I will be moving very quickly because I have a plan for each day and how I'm going to finish on time 4. I have struggled with time management and finding what to do my project on. 5. I am going to make my background the notes and then do watercolour and loose pen I am very excited about taking Art enriched this year. The class being smaller, options being broader, and it being with people who are more serious about art. I am very nervous about the big topics because it makes the options endless for project ideas. This year we have to incorporate meaning behind your work and make it deep. I am also concerned about the faster pace we are moving at because I really struggle with time management. I think this year is going to be very fun and more meaningful because I get to have a backstory to each piece, but at the same time very stressful about choosing what to do and moving at the pace we are.
